Clubs
Figueirense Futebol Clube
In the early 20’s a young sportsman, rowing and football enthusiast, began to spread among his friends and other supporters of football, the idea of creating a new football club in the capital of Santa Catarina, precisely at the time that the football of Florianópolis and region was in decline with the demise of some associations. Jorge Albino Ramos was the mentor of an idea that truly achieved success.
His first step was to win the sympathy of his countrymen and also fans of football, at that time there were already several clubs in the country, especially in the capitals of major States. His initial partners were Balbino Felisbino da Silva, Domingos Joaquim Veloso and João Savas Siridakis.
Throughout the month of May of the year 1921 in their Sunday meetings at Praça XV de Novembro and even during the daily chat together with the delicious coffee of traditional pubs of the Center of Florianópolis, they exchanged ideas about the future name of the association, its colors, headquarters, names and positions for the first Board of Directors. At the beginning of June, João Savas Siridakis, better known as Janga, advocated the idea that the club should be called Figueirense. He advocated this name because many of the meetings they had to treat the foundation of the new association took place in the village of Figueira.
