Club Atlético San Martín de Tucumán
Clube Atlético San Martín is a consequence of the enthusiasm of fourteen young people from the south neighborhood of the capital of Tucumán, specifically the corner of Ayacucho St. with Lavalle St. These sports enthusiasts had the idea of creating a club and agreed to be called San Martín.
Those guys were called Romelio Castro, Ezequiel Riquelme, Secundino Torossi, Medardo Figueroa, Ramón Méndez, Zacarías Robles, Segundo Medina, Manuel Reynoso, Justo González, Alberto Muruaga, Segundo Rivero, Amado Pereyra, Angel Suárez and Ramón Romano. They met at the home of Riquelme and the home of Torossi, until it was signed the record of the foundation, on the night of November 2nd, 1909. These young people from the corner known as La Laguna (The Lagoon), because it got flooded whenever it rained, they could not imagine the transcendence that had this modest club, which was born as a representative of the neighborhood and became the symbol of a state.
Since then, Clube San Martín was getting bigger and attracting the heart of Tucumán people, becoming one of the most important and popular teams, not only in the state, but also nationally. Its followers were multiplying every day, following a process of institutional growth that was parallel of the obtainment of great and unforgettable sports achievements.
Those few sports enthusiasts make up the essence that gave rise to a unique feeling, wonderful, awakening when the team enters the field to defend the prestige of this shirt, that was born and endures in time as a symbol that involves so much passion. For all that it was, it is and it will be San Martín, the names of these young people will always occupy a prominent place in the gallery of memories.
Romelio Castro was its first president and the colors chosen for the shirt were inspired by those used by the glorious troopers of San Martín and, in the shield, there are eleven red and white vertical stripes representing the eleven players on the team.
