Ceará Sporting Clube

Ceará Sporting Club was born on June 2nd, 1914. Youngsters Luís Esteves Júnior and Pedro Freire had the idea of founding a club during an afternoon meeting at Café Art Nouveau, which operated in Praça do Ferreira. At the site, decided to invite some friends to go, at night, to the residence of Luís Esteves, located at Rua Tristão Gonçalves, 6.

Everybody got excited and soon was arranged the founding of Rio Branco Foot-ball Club. 24 people attended the historic meeting that, unanimously, chose as president Gilberto Gurgel. Besides the three founders already mentioned, took part in the event Newton Rola, Walter Barroso, Bolívar Purcel, Aluísio Mamede, Orlando Olsen, Raimundo Padilha, Ninito Justa, Meton de Alencar Pinto, Gotardo Moraes, Arthur de Albuquerque, Cincinato Costa, Carlos Calmon, Eurico Medeiros, José Elias and Rolando Emílio.

In the first decade, 5 times champion.

Until today, the greatest feat of Ceará was the conquest of 5 championships, from 1915 to 1919, under the auspices of the Metropolitan Cearense League of Football (LCMF), the first local managing body of the sport. Besides Stela, Rio Negro and Maranguape and under the seal of the Metropolitan Cearense League of Football, Ceará disputes its first solo exhibition in Ceará.

Twice the conquest of 4 championships marked the recent history.

Ceará would again put his hands on the trophy in 1922, when it was commemorated the centenary of the Independence of Brazil. Besides this fact, the victory was important because it served to prevent his rival from conquering the championship for the third consecutive time. The club imported several athletes from Pará. Two of them stood out: Pau Amarelo and Vitório. In the final match, held on October 18th of that year, the Grandpa (as it is affectionately called) thrashed Fortaleza with a score of 4-1, goals from Pau Amarelo (2), Abreu and Deca. Clodomir scored for the rival. The winning team was formed with Aldo; Gotardo and Meton; Saracura, Vitório and Cantuária; Walter Barroso, Abreu, Deca, Pau Amarelo and Braun.

In 2006 there was no juggle which helped the rival. He was preparing to win his first fourth consecutive title _ featuring the shameful title got in the juggle of the earlier year. But, in the final games, was hit by Ceará. With two 1-0 victories, the Grandpa ended the dream of the opponent and showed that "four championships is a luxury” and the prerogative of the team holding the largest supporter of the State.
